Meet the official Chapecoense squad for 2017

After the Horric tragedy of last year’s plane crash that killed so many players of Chapecoense’s first team,  Brazilian side has rebuilt from its youth system and with the help of Brazilian sides to give the people of Chapecoense an opportunity to honour their survivors and start a new chapter in the club’s history.

To void of first-team players has mostly been filled by youth players and it will be some time before we know when survivors  Neto and Alan Ruschel will be able to play again, but with the help of new signings, Chapeocoense are ready to honour their fallen heroes.

We’ve compiled a list of the squad with all the key information you need to know about Chape’s 2017 squad and the players that will guide the many youngsters who have prematurely been asked to step up for their club.



The Goal keeper had a great season with Brazilian Serie B side Juventude and is on loan for the season.

Artur Moraes

Veteran that has played for Roma and Benfica and will give much needed experience to a young side.

Luiz Felipe

the 20-year-old from the club’s youth system.


Douglas Grolli (CB) 

Loanee from Cruzeiro that emerfed from Chape’s youth system. Played last Serie A on loan at Ponte Preta.

Luiz Otavio (CB)

Loanee from Luverdense where he was a first-team regular in Serie B.

Fabricio Bruno (CB)

A big centre-back at 192cm who is on loan from Cruzeiro.


Nathan (CB)

A young centre-back on loan from Brazilian champions Palmeiras.

Hiago (CB)

19-year-old from the club’s youth system.

Scalon (CB)

21-year-old from the club’s youth system.

Vinicius (CB)

19-year-old from the club’s youth system.

Diego Renan (RB)

Has joined the club at the age of 26 to follow his former coach Vagner Mancini into Chape. He’s also on loan from Cruzeiro as Brazilian’s biggest sides help Chape get back on their feet.

Emilio Zeballos (RB)


Another loanee, Uruguayan born.

Joao Pedro (RB)

Palmeiras have also loaned out this 20-year-old full-back who will get valuable first-team experience.

Reinaldo (LB)

Had an excellent season with Ponte Preta, joins on loan in good form.

Gabriel (LB)

18-year-old from the club’s youth system.


Moises Ribeiro (CM)

The 25-year-old was a Chape player last year but thankfully wasn’t on board LaMia Airlines Flight 2933.

On loan from Gremio but spent most of last season injured.

Amaral (CM)

The 30-year-old brings precious experience to the squad. Spent last season on loan at Cortiba.

Andrei Girotto (CM)

24-year-old signed from Japanese side Kyoto Sanga.

Luiz Antonio (CM)

On loan from Flamengo after helping Bahia to promotion from Serie B last season. One to look out for.

Young midfielder who signed for Chape after Internacional decided not to offer him a new deal.

Lucas Mineiro (CM)

20-year-old from the club’s youth system.

Andrei Alba (CM)

22-year-old from the club’s youth system.

34-year-old Chape player who also wasn’t on board the tragic flight.

Alejandro Martinuccio (CAM)

29-year-old who also didn’t travel with the squad on that fateful day.

Nadson (CAM)

Signed a two year deal with the club after leaving Parana in Serie B.

Dodo (CAM)

A young loan signing who got experience in Serie A last season with Figueirense.



Osman (CAM)

24-year-old loanee. Played in Serie A last season with America Mineiro and was a star player. Could be key this season.

Bryan (CAM)

20-year-old from the club’s youth system.

Rossi (ST)

Signed a three-year deal with the club. Scored nine goals in Serie B with Golas last season.

Wellington Paulista (ST)

Remember this one? Neither do West Ham fans. He was at the club in 2013 but joins Chape this year on loan from Fluminense.

Tulio de Melo (ST)

The 31-year-old that made his name playing for Lille and played for Chape in 2015.

Niltinho (ST)

The Versatile forward that is on loan from Serie B side Criciuma.

Arthur (ST)

The 24-year-old on loan from Londrina. Something of a journeyman in Brazil and will hope to nail down a place at Chape.
